Joy-Con named the removable controllers that sit on each side of the Nintendo Switch. There are two different Joy-Con, one right (R) and one left (L) that have slightly different functionality, but both of which are a full controller in themselves.

Using the Joy-Con strap is always recommended, especially in games that use motion controls. The Joy-Con strap is universal and fits both right and left Joy-Con.
